Burundi

Burundi is a country located in east-central Africa, south of the Equator. It is a landlocked country and has a rich history as a kingdom. Unlike many other African countries, Burundi’s borders were not determined by colonial rulers. The country has a population of approximately 11,865,821 people and covers an area of 27,830 square kilometers. The official languages spoken in Burundi are Kirundi, French, Swahili, and English.

Burundi is classified as a low-income economy with over 80% of the population employed in the agricultural sector. The country is surrounded by Rwanda to the north, Tanzania to the east, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west, and bordered by Lake Tanganyika to the southwest. Burundi’s primary exports are coffee and tea, which account for 90% of its foreign exchange earnings.
